IPOKRaTES Students Seminars 2010 – that means lectures and teachings in small groups by excellent guestprofessors from Germany, Canada, Austria, South Africa, Great Britain and United States. The aim is to offer highly motivated students the opportunity to learn and improve their clinical skills. In only one week of intensive bedside-teaching participants will learn how to give a patient`s case history systematically, subject specific examination techniques and ways of presenting a case using chosen patients. IPOKRaTES StudentsIPOKRaTES Students is part of IPOKRaTES international (International Postgraduate Organization of Knowledgetransfer Research and Teaching Excellent Students), founded 1984 by Prof. Dr. Simbruner. 1994 the first seminars for students were performed. The number of seminars are continously growing, not only in Germany, Austria and Slovenia.
Since 1994 different excellent guestprofessors from all over the world, from Germany, Canada, Austria, South Africa, Great Britain and United States, were gained for IPOKRaTES Students Seminars. The close contact to the professors combined with strict evaluation promises excellent teaching in a language understandable for students.
Lectures and teachings in small groups: seminar size is limited in order to guarantee personal interaction between the participants and the professors. The teaching: discussion of the further diagnostic procedure and possible therapy learning about the most important diseases of the seminars subject using case-studies. The organisation: IPOKRaTES Students is a non governmental, non-profit student initiative committed to the sharing of medical knowledge to all interested students.

This seminar aims at providing you with the possibility to learn about pediatrics in all its facets in a real-life environment while being coached by an excellent teacher.
In small groups, you will experience intensive bed-side teaching, followed by in-depth discussion of relevant medical and pathophysiological problems associated with “your” patients. While you will learn how you can easily take a patient's history and how to present it to your senior or teacher, you can efficiently work on your clinical and theoretical skills in pediatrics.
You will spend one whole week (daily from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) in a great atmosphere of learning together with enthusiastic people. Apart from the seminar work, which will consist of daily morning lectures, taking histories on the wards, discussions and afternoon reviews, you will also have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and your teachers during the evenings.
The main eligibility criteria for this seminar are true interest in everydayoccurring problems in pediatrics, basic skills in bed-side examination techniques, basic knowledge in pediatrics and most importantly the will to work on one's knowledge and skills.

We are delighted to be able to host Steve Mackey from Columbia University, New York, who will be holding an IPOKRaTES students seminar in Innsbruck. Exceptional clinical expertise as well as brilliant teaching abilities are among Prof. Mackey’s qualities, that will make this seminar an exceptional opportunity to experience internal medicine at its best.
Three crucial abilities will be trained in this seminar: history taking, physical examination and oral presentation. Participants will work in small groups to train in a patient-focused manner, to develop clinical skills, to discuss differential diagnoses, and to meet international students, while learning from an exceptional teacher. Evenings after seminar sessions include common activities, thus offering sufficient time to get to know other seminar participants and the lecturer.
This seminar’s goal is to enable students, who are interested in expanding their knowledge and skills, to familiarize themselves with the didactic concepts of large American medical schools and their teachers. Eligibility depends mainly on each student’s sincere interest and wish to seize this opportunity to grow and learn.

Wir freuen uns, Steve Mackey von der Columbia University, New York, für ein IPOKRaTES Studenten-Seminar in Innsbruck begrüßen zu dürfen. Steve Mackey zeichnet sich durch ein außergewöhnliches klinisches Wissen und brilliante Didaktik aus, sodass ein großes Spektrum der Inneren Medizin in einer einzigen Woche tiefgründig behandelt werden kann.
Das Seminar soll seine Teilnehmer in drei wesentlichen Punkten fördern: History Taking, Physical Examination und Oral Presentation. In einer kleinen Gruppe bietet sich die Möglichkeit, intensiv und direkt am Patienten zu üben, klinische Fertigkeiten zu entwickeln, Differentialdiagnosen zu diskutieren, internationale Studenten zu treffen und für eine Woche von einem erstklassigen Professor im persönlichen Kontakt zu lernen.
Das Seminar soll den Studenten, die mehr wissen wollen, eine Möglichkeit bieten das geniale klinische und didaktische Konzept großer englischsprachiger Medizinschulen und deren Professoren für eine Woche zu genießen und davon zu profitieren. Das wesentliche Kriterium für die Teilnahme ist Motivation, es wird von niemandem erwartet, dass er alles weiß oder kann. Es sollte lediglich der Wunsch vorhanden sein, diese wunderbare Gelegenheit zu nutzen.
